Against teams who have less quality than Spurs — Nottingham Forest and Leeds United, say — that kind of controlled, dominating performance in the first part of the game would be more than enough for Liverpool to have beaten those sides comfortably. There were a number of positives to take for Liverpool — and it has not been too often this season that we have been able to say that. The Champions League places look within reach again and Salah is back in form. One or two better decisions from Darwin Núñez and it could have been more comfortable for the final half hour.
Until then, Liverpool are going to have to make do with the fun of watching him doing things that sometimes even he could not second-guess.
They have don 世界杯体育直播 e it against both Napoli and Spurs now this week. The next challenge is to do the same thing against Derby and Southampton.
The real question is whether or not Liverpool can build upon this result and go again, but it would appear that they should be able to take positives from the return of the 4-3-3 system. On a night of few negatives, Trent Alexander-Arnold was caught out a few times defensively and was perhaps fortunate to avoid greater scrutiny for a push inside the penalty area that could have been viewed as a foul.
Kane barely saw the ball and dropped very deep with no one in front of him, particularly in the first half, summing up the difference between this version of Liverpool, seen for an hour or so, and the Liverpool that were all over the place in the centre of the pitch at the start of the season. That changed when Dejan Kulusevski came onto the pitch, but there are things to be taken from the first part of the match.

Alexander-Arnold comes under the microscope more often than any other defender in the league when it comes to that side of his game, but there were occasions where he should have done better — not least near the end, when he was well out of position as Liverpool clung on, receiving a stern telling off from Jordan Henderson, whose rage was understandable.
Liverpool picked up a vital three points in a six-pointer against Tottenham, giving themselves a much-needed boost as they aim to get their season back on track and finish inside the Champions League spots at the end of the campaign.
For now, Liverpool can focus on the positives of taking the win. But Alexander-Arnold, in moments, remains a concern.
Next up: Derby County in the Carabao Cup, Southampton in the Premier League, and then the World Cup. Two more wins before the international tournament would leave the Reds in a positive place relative to how poor they have been at times of late.
That, of course, used to be the norm no matter the opponent, and Spurs have some key men out injured. But they are still a threat and it was important that Liverpool gave their hosts no encouragement. That changed in the final 30 minutes, but to that point, the Reds had been on top and were largely calm and collected.
There were some sumptuous passes that Alexander-Arnold played, especially into the path of Núñez in the first 45 minutes, which were good to see. But while he is not quite as bad as some might want to make out going the other way, there are still things that need to be addressed for him to reach his previous levels.

The Good
Núñez was generally a positive, but there can be no escaping the fact he needs to make better use of some situations. His goalscoring and generally chaotic tendencies are good in terms of being unpredictable — but there are more levels still to be unlocked.
Mohamed Salah was the match-winner with two well-taken goals in the first half and even though Harry Kane pulled a goal back with around 20 minutes to play, Liverpool held on for the win.
