Real Madrid (Group F winners, ahead of Leipzig, Shakhtar and Celtic)
Liverpool cannot be drawn against another English side until the quarter-finals, and they cannot draw Napoli, who won their group. Group D was won by Tottenham, Group E was won by Chelsea and Manchester City won Group G.
A repeat of last season's final would arguably be the hardest draw that Li 世界杯足球 verpool can face. Carlo Ancelotti's side are not unbeatable, of course, but it does sometimes feel like that in the knockout phase of this tournament. It would be revenge to knock Real Madrid out, but Liverpool would surely want to avoid playing the Champions League's most decorated team.
Having finished as runners-up in Group A, Liverpool will play away from home in the second leg. They could face a harder draw than had they scored a couple more goals against Napoli on Tuesday (or conceded a couple fewer against the Italians in September) but Benfica is still preferable to PSG, as we'll shortly explain.
Liverpool will be hoping for a last-16 trip to Portugal, for certain. Having beaten Benfica fairly comfortably who had Darwin Núñez last season, the Reds will be big favourites having taken their best player should they face Roger Schmidt's men. They topped their group with a late, late goal against Maccabi Haifa, winning 6-1 and securing the margin they required.
The ideal draw: Portugal. Either Benfica or Porto.

Benfica (Group H winners, ahead of PSG, Juventus and Maccabi Haifa)
FC Porto (Group B winners, ahead of Brugge, Leverkusen and Atlético Madrid)
Liverpool have not had the easiest season so far, but by the time the knockout phase of the Champions League comes around, things could look considerably different.

The Portuguese side are definitely the joint-best option for Liverpool, even if another trip to Estádio do Dragão might be a little bit boring. The Reds would be favourites to win the tie, for sure, and a visit to play Sérgio Conceição's side again would be favourable.
The Sadio Mané derby, as it were. Liverpool have knocked Bayern out before at this stage of the competition — in 2019, en route to Madrid — with Mané, of course, scoring an iconic goal in that tie against t 卡塔尔世界杯 he club he now represents.
Jürgen Klopp might have made a signing of two, though, by the time the last-16 begins in February, while players like Diogo Jota and Luis Díaz should be fit again. The Reds are not 世界杯篮球 in great shape now, but they will hope that is different in three months' time.

Planning for the last-16 of the Champions League, however, can begin from Monday. At 11am UK time on November 7, UEFA will make the draw for the first knockout phase.
Bayern Munich (Group C winners, ahead of Inter, Barcelona and Viktoria Plzeň)
Here is what we make of the potential opponents that Liverpool could face (had they beaten Napoli to top spot, they would have faced one of Brugge, Inter, Frankfurt, AC Milan, Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund or PSG — better odds of a nicer draw overall). But their poor performance in Naples may not yet be punished as heavily as it might, depending on who comes out of UEFA's pot... |
